The beginning Pears

By kittycancraft, 2018-01-28
The beginning Pears

I started the Big Art Quest Pears today. I was going to just skip to the portrait BAQ, but decided to do them all from the Pears first. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I remembered why I hated still life involving fruit when I was a kid. I've always been better with drawing and painting people. I seem to pick up more from Cinnamon Cooney videos than I ever did in Art class in school though. They weren't the most horrible thing I've ever created, so I suppose I can live with it.
I'm sure I will do much better by the end of the quest when we do the Pears again.

It's been a hard weekend for me. Friday was the anniversary of the death of someone very important to our family. I decided I would lose myself in Art for a little while. Creativity has always been my therapy.

BIG NEWS!

By DonnaF, 2017-08-18
BIG NEWS!

Put your heart in your art... isn't that what Cinnamon @cinnamon-cooney   always says?

So, here is a link to a little story of how my mother was sick, and I was far away, and so decided to be with her in art because I could not be with her in person. Painting Goodbye . It is the background for my big news.

From out of those deeply felt paintings came an invitation from a publisher to illustrate an entire children's book. Of course, I said yes, and the surreal adventure unfolded from there. The book is now published and the emotional journey is ongoing. How could something so tragic lead to something so beautiful? How can I feel so happy about it when it could have never existed without such a tragedy in my life? These questions spin in my head as I continue to absorb the events of the last several months, but I know one thing for sure - Put your heart in your art is excellent advice. Our hearts have a way of knowing and connecting on levels we don't understand, but deeply need.

Thank you for letting me share my big news with you.

The book is titled A is for Azure: An Alphabet in Colors , and it is really real... it has an ISBN# and everything.

Grief

By rebelmama45, 2017-05-18

5-18-17:

We lay Yvette to rest today.  Her death has been extremely hard on me.  She was the youngest of us cousins and a light to me in many ways.  She was strong and bright and hard working.  She was a single mom of 4 adorable kids who are now left behind with a future that is in no way secure.  I hope against hope that their dna donors will leave them with their grandmother and let them grow up with the only family they have known in their short lives, in a family that will do their best to make sure they know every day how much their mommy loved them.  It hurts me to no end to be stuck in Arkansas when all of the family that matters to me is in California.  It's at times like these, that I wish I had made different choices in my life and gone out West when I had the chance.  Such is life!  Losing Yvette at such a young age has affected me to the point that my painting has changed.  The simplest things are now mountains to climb over; nothing seems to go right and I have fought the urge to just Quit!  I know it's the grief and that I just have to keep plowing through, I'll get over this hump eventually......at least my head knows this, the rest of me isn't so sure.

Steam Punk Girl

Steam Punk Girl

Steam punk is an amazing art style! This painting has a project  for how to create the patina for the background. A how to Draw the girl in that was LIVE on fb. We covered her in two awesome body types. BUT due to enthusiasm to create designs that are even more inclusive I went ahead and made her in 3 body types for the traceable. It is important that in a personal creative Process we create work that has a positive reflection of our world. A positive reflection of who we are and the people we love. I would encourage you to take advantage of the Hair and  Skin quests as well at the 3 trace-ables so that you can create a painting that feels personal. Paint yourself into your steampunk fantasy.

Draw it :

Wizards and Artists make all the Muggles Nervous

When I tell people I am an artist they look at me as if I said I am a Wizard for a career path. In fact for years I dropped artist and said stay at home mom. Which still was received with more acceptance and respect than Artist. But I am out of the game closet and wearing my paint and smock proudly. Yes I am an Artist. My imagination is what I will be using to pay my light bill this month and no I will not be imagining the lights on. It is interesting how what you do and who you are can affect people. After all its not like I drug them out of their job and asked them to also be an Artist with me. We are not a cult we are a Culture! In fact artist, writers, chefs, and Musicians are what give us any sense of culture. In creation we are part of the divine and are therefore a little magical...scary. Perhaps our bare open honestly in the face of social convention is just to daring. Either way I am only daring to be myself.
